Have you ever heard of sub-characters? In Korea entertainment field, many entertainers are making a debut with another character. This trend derived from a famous MC, Jaeseok Yoo. At the television show “Hang out with Yoo”, he comes out with his another ego, Sanseul Yoo, who is a trot singer, and also Yoo-Dragon, who is a member of an idol group Ssakthree. The point of this show is that the star does not imply about the real image and acts as if he was a different person. The result of this show was much more successful than they expected, and got positive assessments from the public. Therefore, this novelty launched a new trend and many actors, comedians, singers and even youtubers rushed into a new field. There is no doubt that our preference changed into sub-characters.

About this new tendency of TV shows, there are two antithetic reactions of the public recently. Majority of the audiences thinks that it is fresh to watch stars’ new aspects. In contrast, minority of the audiences criticizes that too many entertainers are trying to make a new character, so it does not feel fresh but just clichéd. Also, some people who have watched famous entertainers for a long time showed negative opinions because famous stars provides their new names continuously and it makes people feel awkward about them. What do you think about this new trend? Which side do you agree with?
