The case of being shot of a public officer in Soyeonpyeong Island

On the 21st, a South Korean government official who went missing in Soyeonpyeong Island was shot dead by a North Korean soldier and burned to his body. The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 24th that a 40-year-old man in his 40s, the first mate of the West Sea fisheries management team of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and an eighth-grade public officer, went missing at 12:51 p.m. on the 21st, and was shot and burned at sea by a North Korean military crackdown boat.

It is the first time for 12 years that a South Korean citizen has been shot dead by North Korea since the murder of a South Korean tourist at Mt.Geumgang in 2008. Given the situation, such as being worn gas masks by the North Korean military, some speculate that measures were involved to prevent COVID-19 infection, but the killing of a public officer without discussing or reporting repatriation with the South Korean government is a clear criminal act.

Since Moon Jae-in government came to the power that it created an atmosphere of peace on the Korean peninsula. But earlier this year, the relationship of South Korea and North Korea is the deteriorated because of North Korea's provocation. Under this circumstance, a public officer's dead will make the relations between South and North Korea much worse.
